Alfonso Martinez Flores began his military journey in 2002 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he completed Basic Training. He then went on to Fort Bliss to finish his training and became an Air Defense Stinger Missile System Operator (14S).
While serving with the New Mexico National Guard, Alfonso deployed for Operation Clear Skies, supporting homeland defense missions. He also assisted with Search and Rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina, spending two months on the ground helping communities recover during one of the nation’s worst disasters.
In 2005, Alfonso transferred to the Arizona National Guard and reclassified to Infantry. Throughout his service, he completed multiple training sessions in Oklahoma, Hawaii, and Texas.
Alfonso ended his military career in 2006 when he joined the Phoenix Police Department, where he has now served for 19 years. He continues to serve the City of Phoenix as a Patrol Sergeant.
